When tiling with Eco Friendly Tiles Shannon Cove range of large format thin tiles, it is crucial that the right installation methods are carried out to ensure long-lasting installations.

Before installing Eco Friendly Tiles Shannon Cove large format thin tiles on floors, it is crucial that the substrate is properly prepared. Floors must be sound, dry and level. Use an ARDEX levelling system – such as ARDITEX NA, ARDITEX CL or ARDEX K 40 HB depending on the substrate to provide a perfectly flat surface to tile on. Once the surface is levelled, in accordance with the leveling compound manufacturer instructions prime your floors with ARDEX P 51 primer. Check the manufacturers’ instructions for mixing ratios – this will change dependent on your surface. Once the floor surface is fully prepared, Eco Friendly Tiles recommends the use of ARDEX X 78 tile adhesive. With a semi-pourable consistency, it is perfect for the installation of solid-bed large format thin tile fixing.

ARDEX X 78 is perfect for large format tiling with a 3-hour pot life and 60-minute open time. A 20kg bag, has a high yield and covers approximately 5.6m2 at 3mm thickness. Mix ARDEX X 78 with a paddle mixer, using approximately 7.2 litres of water per 20kg bag. Mix thoroughly in clean, cold water until a smooth, lump-free consistency is achieved. After pouring the adhesive onto the surface, use a suitable trowel to comb it out. N.B Ensure that all the ribs are going in the same direction to ensure solid-bed fixing, as ARDEX X 78 is semi-pourable – back buttering is not required to achieve this. Place the tile into the adhesive bed with suction cups and twist or preferably vibrate the tiles with a tiling specific tool . This will ensure the ribs are fully collapsed beneath the tile. Once you have laid your tiles, with ARDEX X 78 you have a 30 minute adjustment time. Allowing you to move or straighten any tiles which may be out of line. Do not grout or expose your tiles to foot traffic for at least 24 hours after laying.
