Eco Friendly Tiles was very excited to be working on a Breeam project recently. Breeam is a sustainability assessment which takes into account the environmental, social and economic sustainability of a project – you can find out more here http://www.ecofriendlytiles.co.uk/inspiration/eco-credentials/.

The office, located in Richmond, was undergoing a refurbishment and extension to its current building. In order for the new section to meet the Breeam assessment, it would need to have eco friendly products used during the build. As Eco friendly Tiles specialises in high-quality products with outstanding eco credentials, we were only too happy to present the client with a variety of options that would suit the stylistic qualities of the project as well as contribute towards the Breeam certification.

Shannon Cove VS.27 was selected for the walls in the bathrooms and was cut down to 1000 x 1500mm to meet the brief. This tile has a unique industrial like texture which creates a slight 3D effect making the panel look like wet plaster. Available in 5.6mm with an R10 slip rating, this tile is also suited to the floor if required. With two sizes of 1000 x 3000mm and 1000 x 1000mm which can be cut down as needed, this large format tile makes covering any space simple. The main selling point of VS.27 for this project however, was the eco credentials:

  • 30-40% recycled content
  • EPD (Environmental Production Declaration)
  • Carbon neutral

Cascade 5.4.A(2) concrete look from our Orba range was used in the bathrooms and reception area on the floors. This concrete look tile is available in a natural and grip finish – both of which have a PTV36+ slip rating making them perfect for floors. The natural finish was in its 600 x1200mm chosen for this project and applied in one of it’s larger formats. Available in with five different sizes 200 x 1200mm, 300 x 600mm, 450 x 900mm, 600 x 600mm and 600 x 1200mm, there were plenty of options available to suit the project. Again, the main appeal of 5.4.A(2) for this particular project was it’s eco-credentials:

  • 20-30% recycled content
  • ISO 14001 certified factory
  • EPD (Environmental Production Declaration)
  • Carbon neutral

The end result was a completed refurbishment following an industrial style palette that complies with Breeam. Eco Friendly Tiles is always proud to see our products being used to their full eco potential. Many of our tiles have high recycled content and a variety of other certifications which can take your eco project to the next level.
